Calcium Complex: Your developing baby needs Calcium to grow strong bones, teeth, a healthy heart, nerves, muscles and to develop normal heart rhythm and blood clotting abilities. If you do not get enough Calcium in your diet pregnancy will leech it from your bones which may impair your own health later on. Calcium deficiency during pregnancy has been show to increase post-partum depression and decrease healthy fetal development.
BIO-AVAILABLE IRON: Pregnancy increases the demand for Iron. Iron supplementation is often difficult to digest causing constipation and stomach upset. Optimal Pre-Natal Blend has added iron as iron peptonate which has an increased bioavailability, is gentle on the digestive system, and had been shown to be more effective in the prevention of anemia. Therefore, Optimal Pre-Natal Blend has added 30 mg of this hematinic formula comprised of highly absorbable iron to gently support the increased demand for iron during pregnancy.
IODINE: Pregnancy increases the demand on the thyroid. Optimal Pre-Natal Blend has added 150 mcg of iodine to our pre-natal formula to help sustain healthy thyroid function during this time of increased demand. Recent studies have shown that supplementaion of Iodine during and after pregnancy reduce the risk of post-partum depression.
BIOTIN: Pregnancy increases the demand for biotin. Optimal Pre-Natal Blend has added biotin to support this increased demand. Rapidly dividing cells of the developing fetus require biotin for DNA replication and synthesis of essential carboxylases. Deficiency can occur indiscriminately in a normal healthy pregnancy. Marginal biotin deficiencies occur in a significant proportion of pregnant women both in their first and third trimester. Therefore, Optimal Prenatal Blend has added 200 mcg of Biotin to our pre-natal formula.
INOSITOL: There is the possible risk of folate resistant neural tube defects in pregnancy. Therefore, Optimal Pre-Natal Blend has added 50mg of inositol to our pre-natal formula to decrease this risk.
